THON™ is the largest student-run philanthropy, having raised over a quarter of a billion dollars for childhood cancer. With more than 16,500 student volunteers, THON offers many opportunities to get involved and support the mission. From Committee Members and Captains to Organization Chairs and Dancers, every single volunteer plays a vital role in raising money and spreading awareness – all in pursuit of a cure. THON is about joining a passionate community where every effort matters and contributes to making a real difference in the fight against childhood cancer.

Committee Members and Captains

There are 17 different committee types that all focus on a specific aspect of THON.  Becoming a Committee Member (CM) entails applying and going through a straightforward interview process. During the school year, committees will have weekly meetings and participate in various pre-THON Weekend events, giving students the opportunity to connect with their fellow committee members and captain(s). At every step, committees help raise money for THON through various fundraising efforts. Applications to join a committee open early in the fall semester.

Captains have the ability to take charge on many of THON’s projects, events, and fundraising efforts. Becoming a captain involves applying and going through an interview process, where applicants can showcase their leadership skills, passion for THON’s mission, and dedication to making a difference. Captains play a vital role in shaping the THON experience for the entire THON community. They foster a supportive and inclusive environment, lead important initiatives, and play an essential role in advancing THON’s mission of supporting children and families impacted by childhood cancer. Applications to become a captain open in late August.

Organizations

Students involved in various organizations – whether fraternities, sororities, special interest organizations, etc. – can choose to take on many different roles in the THON community. They have the opportunity to apply to be their Primary THON Chair or apply for various positions on their organization’s THON committee. The positions often include family relations, donor and alumni relations, and fundraising roles. These leadership opportunities allow students to make a meaningful impact while strengthening their connection to THON’s mission.

Even if a student chooses not to pursue a leadership position, they can still actively participate and help raise money! Throughout the year, organizations host a variety of fundraising events open to anyone who wants to attend and support THON. During THON Weekend, anyone can join their organization’s designated area in the BJC to show their support. Additionally, many organizations have an allotted number of dancers that they elect to represent their organization during THON Weekend.

No matter how students choose to fundraise and show their support for THON and the Four Diamonds families, every effort makes a difference. Together, all student volunteers help form the THON community, united by one mission – All For The Kids®.
