Today, we are highlighting food and gas, two areas that can be quick to overlook during this time for families. Travel expenses add up over time, and having to think about how a family will get from point A to point B when their child is battling the ultimate fight is the last thing they should have to worry about.
The drive from Pittsburgh to Penn State Health Golisano Children’s Hospital is about 3 hours and 30 minutes. One trip for a family would be 215 miles and around $35 in gas. It’s important to realize how quickly this can add up.Childhood cancer treatments entail many visits to the hospital with long stays and unexpected expenses.
Your donations help to guarantee families have access to meals during these hospital visits or long drives. Financial stress should be the last thing parents should think about when their child has cancer. Donations help to relieve some of that stress so that they can focus on their family.
Every mile and meal given to these families is one less burden for those who are impacted by childhood cancer. Because of your donation, THON ensures that these families do not see a dime in their cancer treatment journey.
