Penn State THON™ raises a record-breaking $18,841,726.53 for THON 2026!
THON Weekend 2026 commenced in the Bryce Jordan Center (BJC) on Friday, February 20, and wrapped up with Total Reveal on Sunday, February 22. Thousands of spectators and volunteers, along with hundreds of dancers, took a stand against childhood cancer during the 46-hour, no-sitting, no-sleeping dance marathon. However, THON is much more than a 46-hour weekend in February; it is a year-long effort led by student volunteers who spread awareness, fundraise, and execute various events and campaigns.
The fiscal year for THON 2026 fundraising began on July 1, and in only 236 days, the THON community raised a record-breaking $18,841,726.53 For The Kids®!
THON Weekend is a culmination of the hard work and dedication demonstrated throughout the year. The event began with Dancers Stand when the Executive Committee took the stage to count down to the beginning of the 46 hours. Once 6 p.m. arrived on Friday evening, dancers and spectators alike took a physical stand against childhood cancer.
Throughout the weekend, countless performances, activities, and acts occurred on and off the main stage to keep dancers and spectators engaged and energized. Major events included the National Act on Friday evening, Pep Rally on Saturday Night, and the Final Four beginning at noon on Sunday.
The National Act for THON 2026 was Fitz and the Tantrums, known for their songs “Out of My League” and “Handclap.” This event kicked off the weekend and set the tone with high energy to keep dancers motivated.
Pep Rally introduced Penn State alumni Juwan and Chanen Johnson to the stage as hosts of the beloved Saturday tradition. During Pep Rally, various Penn State sports teams performed dances on stage and competed to win an engraved trophy featuring their team’s name. Pep Rally wrapped up Saturday night, keeping the energy in the BJC electric as everyone pushed through to the final day.
Final Four marked the last four hours of THON Weekend prior to Dancers Sit. Beginning at noon on Sunday, each hour was packed with meaningful events designated to motivate dancers and spectators through the final stretch. Final Four began with family hour – a deeply impactful hour dedicated to Four Diamonds families, reminding everyone why they contributed to the cause. This emotional hour was followed by the annual concert from Go Go Gadjet, who energized the arena with crowd-favorite cover songs.
Next, the Executive Committee returned to the stage and counted the dancers down to 4 p.m., signifying they had successfully completed 46 hours on their feet and could finally sit down!
Shortly after everyone took a seat, the highly anticipated total reveal took place. Ben Roitman, the THON 2026 Executive Director, alongside the 18 directors on the Executive Committee, revealed the total amount of funds raised throughout the THON 2025-2026 fundraising year. The final number, $18.8 million, surpassed last year’s total of $17.7 million, marking another record-breaking year for the THON community.
As Penn State THON continues to expand and break records, it is important to remember that the significance is not only about the number revealed at the end of the weekend. We never know which dollar will bring us closer to a cure. The money generously donated supports children and families fighting unimaginable battles. It allows parents to focus on their children’s well-being without the added burden of medical bills. It fuels life-saving research. It ensures that no family fights alone.
THON is a place for kids to be kids. THON raises money so no parent has to hear the words, “your child has cancer”. THON dances so that one day we will dance in celebration – but until then, we dance for a cure.
Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time, donated, danced, and supported THON this year. Your generosity and selflessness made a direct impact on a child’s life. Thank you for making THON 2026 another amazing year For The Kids®.
THON™ is able to donate 96 cents of every dollar raised to Four Diamonds at Penn State Health Golisano Children’s Hospital because of supporters like you. Your generosity creates moments of joy for Four Diamonds children and families and empowers our volunteers through year-round events, fundraisers and THON Weekend.
