Today, July 1st, 2022, marks the beginning of the THON™ 2023 fundraising year and the start of the annual “Ignite the Fight” campaign. With the opening of the THON 2023 fundraising window, we celebrate members of the THON Community taking their first stand of the year in the fight against childhood cancer.
There are thousands of unique ways for anyone to support THON’s mission. Students, alumni, families, and donors can all utilize their resources, time, and skills to provide a spark that will Ignite the Fight of these coming months.
“I work to ‘Ignite the Fight’ by trying to spread the passion that I have for THON to the rest of the THON community by bringing a strong attitude to everything we do,” explained Alpha Tau Omega’s Overall THON Chair Jett Tom, “Being excited to spend my time fundraising for THON helps to set an example for my peers that play such a big part in what we achieve every year”.
THON leaves a lasting impression on those involved long after their time at Penn State. Navaya Misra, a former THON Captain and Chair, elaborated on how her involvement has shaped her perspective.
“During my time at Penn State, THON has held a very special place in my heart. It allowed me to be a part of something bigger than myself and shaped me into the person I am today. I chose to be involved in THON because of the impact it makes and the community of hardworking and dedicated people it harbors. Words cannot describe the magic THON holds. I am excited to continue my THON experience as an alumni!”
Alumni play an integral role in supporting THON’s mission. Colleen and Tom Weber attended THON Weekend as students, and developed a deeper appreciation for THON when their daughter became involved as a Public Relations Captain. The Webers are pleased to serve as volunteers and spokespeople for THON in addition to contributing their financial support.
“For the kids. We are Penn State proud, and THON is the thing to be most Penn State proud.”
THON’s ever-expanding body of passionate contributors can be attributed to the support and friendship that its community provides.
“THON has helped me find my home at Penn State. THON has given me my favorite people, through committees and organizations,” said volunteer Ainsley Adams, “After having the opportunity to meet several of my dance teams and sororities families, why I THON has evolved. THON provides hope for families that there can be a happy ending to their story and that a cure is possible. When I think of THON I think of love. THON is truly a gigantic act of love.”
