Alternative Fundraisers are events or initiatives hosted by THON™ organizations, Independent Dancer Couples (IDCs), and Committees to directly boost their overall totals, as all money raised gets credited directly to their organization’s account. From backyard tournaments to seasonal pop-ups, now is the time to bring fresh energy and creativity to your fundraising efforts for THON!
Active and Athletic Events
For the supporters who are ready to sweat, these ideas are guaranteed to raise your heart rate.
- 46 Miles in 46 hours: Take on the challenge of running or walking 46 miles in 46 hours! Supporters can “sponsor” the mile of their choosing.
- Cornhole Tournament: Gather some friends and stock up on prizes! Pairs could play a round-robin tournament where the registration fees benefit THON.
- Bucket Golf Tournament: Organizers charge an entry fee per duo to host a casual indoor or outdoor tournament. Boost your fundraising total with small side-games like a $5 “hole-in-one” throw or donated raffle prizes!
- Ice Cream Mile: Blending speed and a sweet tooth, participants can pay a fee to run four laps around a track, eating a cup of ice cream before each lap. For a twist, allow participants to pay to see you run the route yourself!
Creative and DIY Ideas
For the thrifters and crafters looking to leverage their creativity, look no further!
- Permanent Jewelry: Host a permanent jewelry pop-up or partner with a local vendor for bracelets, necklaces, or anklets to provide supporters with a long-lasting keepsake.
- Keychain Making: Whether you organize a DIY keychain-making stand or take custom orders, this serves as a unique, low-cost craft!
- Charm Bar: Supporters can personalize their own necklaces, bag clips, or purses by choosing individual charms! Organizers could charge a set price per charm or run offers for larger quantities.
- Banner Making: If you’re talented with a paint brush, use your creative skills to benefit your fundraising efforts! Banners are in high demand for birthdays, holidays, and other photo opportunities.
Food-Driven Fundraisers
When life gives you lemons, you could host a lemonade stand to benefit THON!
- Bake Sale: A timeless, low-cost staple, hosting a bake sale allows supporters to grab homemade goods like cookies, brownies, or cupcakes for a good cause.
- Prepared meals or frozen dinners: Fundraisers can assemble and sell pre-portioned, freeze-ready meals like casseroles and soups, or even coordinate a hot meal delivery service. Busy students and families can take advantage of the convenience and purchase them for quick weeknight dinners.
- Goodie Bags: Assemble and sell holiday treat bags! Whether it’s a Halloween “Boo Bag,” Valentine’s Day candy gram or stocking stuffer, goodie bags can be bought and gifted to friends, family, coworkers or roommates to get into the holiday spirit!
Note for Organizers: Please ensure all Alternative Fundraisers comply with official THON fundraising guidelines.
