On Saturday, Sept. 19, Penn State Football fans joined together with Four Diamonds families during the THON™ Football Game at Beaver Stadium against Buffalo. The THON Football game is a Penn State tradition that honors Four Diamonds families and helps to raise awareness and support in the fight against childhood cancer.
Every year, a Four Diamonds child is selected to be the Kickoff Kid, and this year it was Jaxon Eichelberger. Jaxon ran across the field in front of 100,000 Penn Staters to retrieve the kickers tee.
The care for Four Diamonds families reached all the way to the student section, where students created the “S-Zone” behind the end zone and wore yellow shirts to create a golden ribbon to show Penn State’s support in conquering childhood cancer.
Even the athlete’s uniforms were special for the game. The Penn State cheerleaders and Lionette’s wore gold ribbons, and the football players’ helmets featured the THON logo.
During the game, Four Diamonds families walked onto the field and held signs that read “Go State Beat Cancer” and were honored by fans and players for their courage, wisdom, honesty, and strength they carry each day.
The Penn State Nittany Lions defeated the Buffalo Bulls 55-13, but this game stands for so much more as we continue to reach new goals and fight for the day we dance in celebration for a cure For The Kids®.
