THON 2027: Technology Director
Why did you want to become a director for the largest student-run philanthropy in the world? I had never been exposed to THON before coming to Penn State and seeing it firsthand, but my experience during my first THON weekend absolutely rocked my world. It blows my mind every day that such a large community of college students can come together to learn about these families, their stories, and their challenges, and try to find a way to build them something special. Though many of us come in lacking experience, tools, or knowledge of how we can help this cause, THON gives us a chance to try. And after three years of experiencing so much love, support, and inspiration from THON families and some of my senior volunteers, applying to be a director gave me an opportunity to try to pay that forward within the organization.
What are your main responsibilities as a Director for THON™ 2027? As Technology Director, I lead a team of 26 captains in developing, maintaining, and improving THON’s five key platforms — THINK, DASH, POST, Warewolf, and THON.org — which support both internal operations and outward-facing engagement. I also oversee the planning and growth of our digital infrastructure to ensure it remains secure, reliable, and scalable for the future.
What is your favorite THON memory? My favorite THON memory was my first final four. I experienced it in the stands with my organization, and it truly opened my eyes to why our mission is so important. Family hour showcases just how many people have been impacted by childhood cancer, and why it’s our duty to do everything we can to beat it. That sentiment is then followed by our total reveal, an absolute celebration of life and of that fact with each day, if everyone keeps doing everything that they can, we can get a little bit closer to doing that.
What is your favorite quote? ” We encounter many defeats but we must not be defeated” — Maya Angelou
What are you involved in outside of being a THON™ Director? Outside of being a THON Director, I’m the Vice President of Membership of Alpha Kappa Psi, and recently finished working within Penn State’s Humanitarian Engineering and Social Entrepreneurship (HESE) program. I also love running, traveling, and Guitar Hero.
What are your plans after graduation from Penn State? Work as a Software Engineer full time, hopefully at a company that supports education.
THON™ is able to donate 96 cents of every dollar raised to Four Diamonds at Penn State Health Golisano Children’s Hospital because of supporters like you. Your generosity creates moments of joy for Four Diamonds children and families and empowers our volunteers through year-round events, fundraisers and THON Weekend.
