Are you a first-year student interested in getting involved with THON™? Even if you missed the Committee Member application deadline in September, you can still get involved by applying to be a First-Year Committee Member! The applications for THON 2024 First-Year Committees are open November 20 on think.thon.org until December 18, 2023!
First-Year Committees strive to empower first year students to take part in the fight against childhood cancer by volunteering for Penn State THON. First Year Committee members will meet other THON volunteers, learn about our mission, and support THON initiatives through fundraising and awareness. First-Year Committee members can look forward to all different types of shifts THON Weekend such as concessions, security, and even a floor shift!
The First-Year Committee Captains are so excited to meet their committee members and inspire them to get involved with THON. Take it from Troy Peters, the Public Relations Administrative Assistant, who will be leading a First-Year Committee this year.
“First-Year Committees provide individuals with an amazing opportunity to experience all that THON has to offer, from the sense of family you will feel with your committee to the joy of knowing that you are giving to an incredible cause. Now that I have been given the opportunity to lead a FYC of my own, I cannot wait to foster the same sense of belonging that I felt,” Troy said.
Emily Galiano was a First-Year Committee Member in THON 2023, and is now a Media Development Committee Member for THON 2024! She encourages students to join so that they can experience multiple aspects of being a THON volunteer.
“I loved my First-Year Committee because it was a great way to get introduced to THON and all its different committees. When I was applying for committees. I was overwhelmed because I wasn’t sure where I would fit, but getting to try out all different roles during THON Weekend helped me a lot,” Emily said.

January 10: First-Year Committee Orientation – 5pm in Freeman Auditorium
January 16-17: First-Year Committee meetings begin
