Why did you want to be a Director?
THON is an exceptional philanthropy for a multitude of reasons, but one of my favorite reasons is that it’s a place for exceptional opportunities. There are opportunities for our families, our volunteers, our donors, and anyone who has supported the philanthropy. The experience that I’ve been able to have is that of growth, community, and an immense amount of support. I wanted to be able to continue THON’s growth and to be able to offer others the experience that I’ve had. Every voice is important, and no idea is too big, and I wanted to bring that mindset to help further our mission. I want to help others reach their potential and beyond and realize that an outstanding impact can be made by anyone. Working together, we can create a difference in the lives of so many. I wanted to become a Director to inspire people to make that difference and to continue to foster an environment of acceptance and community.
What responsibilities do you have as the Event Safety Director for THON 2021?
As Event Safety Director, my responsibilities include being THON’s liaison between the Bryce Jordan Center, University Police, and University Emergency Management. THON is able to operate at the size we are due to cooperation between our volunteers and our partners. In addition, I also oversee the Event Safety Captains that help coordinate the Security and Pass initiatives such as Entrance Plan, the Pass System, and our overall building security, among other projects.
What is your favorite THON memory?
One of my favorite THON memories is from my first THON experience during THON 2015 when my sister was a dancer. I got to spend time with her on the floor and it was really a great experience to be able to support her and be part of her weekend as a dancer. It was incredible seeing how many people came together to support this one cause. It was so surreal standing on the floor and being able to look around and see the whole BJC filled and see THON Weekend from that perspective. My sister has always been one of my inspirations, and even the reason why I joined R&R my freshman year. That first experience with THON because of her dedication to the philanthropy was really a defining moment in my own journey.
