THON 2010 will mark the 3rd year of THON’s support for Wigs for Kids. By generously donating your hair to Wigs for Kids, you enable a child to look and feel like themselves again. Wigs for Kids strives to provide only the highest quality, complimentary wigs for children. For this reason, the requirements for acceptable donations are somewhat strict. These constraints help ensure that your donation is useable.

To donate to Wigs for Kids:

  • Hair must be at least 12 inches in length. If hair is layered, please measure from the shortest layer. Pull curly hair straight to measure.
  • Hair must not be chemically treated. Acceptable hair is free of dyes, highlights, or perms.

How it all began…

When the niece of successful hairdresser Jeffery Paul was diagnosed with leukemia, Wigs for Kids was created. Paul’s niece, an active 15-year-old gymnast, hated the thought of losing her hair from the chemotherapy necessary to save her life. Hair loss is difficult for any chemotherapy patient to face but for children and teens, it can be especially trying. Paul worked with doctors and prosthetics specialists to create a hairpiece that would fit his niece’s lifestyle and allow her to continue participating in the gymnastics that she loved. The hairpiece that Paul eventually developed was well-suited not only for his niece, but for children as a whole. Due to their small size and high level of activity, finding a hairpiece for children can be difficult. Paul’s hairpiece, however, was able to withstand swimming, gymnastics, sleepovers, and other activities.

Since its inception, Wigs for Kids has produced approximately 100 high quality wigs per year and has enabled over 1,000 kids to look and feel like themselves again.

Salons and Hair Stylists:

THON and Wigs for Kids depends on your donations of time and service. By providing free hair cuts to those who wish to donate, you encourage their participation. THON also needs stylists to help cut ponytails on-stage during THON weekend. If you are or your salon are interested in learning more about how to get involved, please contact us!
