Canister solicitation, referred to as “canning” by the students, is a valued THON tradition that can greatly support your fundraising efforts when done safely and properly. Canister solicitation can only take place during the four designated fundraising weekends.

THON 2011 Canning Weekends are:

                  Canning weekend 1:October 22-24, 2010
                  Canning weekend 2: December 3-5, 2010
                  Canning weekend 3: January 21-23, 2011
                  Canning weekend 4: February 11-13, 2011

To ensure the safety and success of your next canning trip, please carefully review the following DOs and DON’Ts:

Dos

DO:
* Wear bright and visible clothing
* Carry a valid Penn State ID
* Properly display official THON signs
* Register your canning trips, and drop-offs on THINK during the week before your canning trip
* Review the PA Vehicle Code, as outlined in the THON Rulebook
* Obtain permits when required by local municipalities (How do I do this?)
* Represent THON and Penn State in a positive and respectful manner
* Share your location with other THON organizations—the money is all going to the same cause!

Don'ts

DON’T:
* Can in the middle of streets or intersections
* Can when it is dark outside
* Can outside of the four designated fundraising weekends
