THON Canning Workshops 2012

Dear THON Volunteers,
Starting this semester and continuing for future years, THON will be holding mandatory Canning Workshops for all student volunteers who wish to participate in canister solicitation. This is in an effort to ensure complete understanding of the policies and guidelines for canning. These workshops will overview safe canning practices, travel safety guidelines, general courtesy, and THON information. Additionally, time will be allotted for students to ask questions to THON leaders. Following the sessions, students will be registered as permitted to go canning and receive wristbands signifying their attendance at the workshops and allowing them to participate in the upcoming fundraising weekend.
The times and locations for all Canning Workshops are listed below:
MONDAY, JANUARY 16TH: White Building: 12:00PM, 12:30PM, 1:00PM, 1:30PM

Simply, we hope to better inform students in order to ensure safe and legal fundraising. As an additional note, no THON volunteer is required to participate in any single form of fundraising, including canister solicitation. If a student is feeling forced to participate by their organization, they should contact a member of the Overall Committee immediately. The contact information for all Overalls can be found here. Anonymous calls can also be made to 800-392-THON. For University Park students, these mandatory Workshops will be held from Monday, January 16th to Wednesday, January 18th in order to accommodate any and all UP students wishing to participate in canning for the upcoming Canning Weekend #3. The Workshops will be offered in 30 minute intervals at multiple locations on campus. Arrive at the scheduled location at least five minutes before the Workshop. Following the presentation, you will be asked to provide an electronic signature of compliance and understanding as well as the name of the organization with which you will be canning. This will notify your THON Chair and the Overall Committee that you have attended a session. Please have your Penn State ID or valid driver's license in hand. Thank you so much for are all that you are doing for THON and For The Kids. We recognize that this is a new procedure, and we appreciate your cooperation. Please direct any questions or concerns regarding the aforementioned procedures to the THON Chairs of your organization or a member of the Overall Committee at Canning@thon.org.
Your continued support and dedication is truly inspiring and deeply appreciated. Thank you!
For The Kids,
Elaine Tanella
