Entertainment

Entertainment Captains have the amazingly unique opportunity to spread THON spirit throughout Penn State and its surrounding communities. In addition to specific responsibilities, captains are expected to attend all Entertainment functions throughout the year. Entertainment Captains are NOT permitted to dance in THON 2009 due to their crucial roles THON weekend. Their responsibilities THON weekend include, but are not limited to: stage set-up during the Big Move, stage and camera shifts, specific Entertainment events and duties, post-THON stage teardown.

Administrative Assistant / Special Events Liaison(1)

This Captain is responsible for coordinating with the overall the function of the overall committee as a whole. Responsibilities include taking meeting minutes, updating the Angel website, and organizing fundraising efforts. They also will work closely with the Local Entertainment Captains to organize Entertainment’s aspects of the THON Family Carnival and THON 5k. Strong organization skills are required.

Archiving/TECH Liaison (1)

This captain will have the responsibility of all media and footage associated with THON 2009 as well as creating digital back ups to ensure that the history and legacy of THON is preserved for generations to come. They also will have the opportunity to "research" THON as they organize and maintain the THON documents and media both in campus and from the local media. This captain will also serve as the main contact to the Technology Committee. Knowledge of servers, Final Cut, and data back-up are preferred.

Bands (2)

These captains will be responsible for recruiting and managing the contracts of bands that will perform throughout the THON season and during THON weekend. They also will be in charge of booking and running the annual THON Band Bash. Good communication skills, organization, and knowledge of the local and regional music scene are preferred.

Family Relations Liaisons (2)

These 2 captains will act as the main line of communication between Entertainment and the Family Relations Committee. Their main projects will include coordinating the Penn State Family Fashion Show and the “Where are They Now?” video featured THON weekend along with various other family related projects. These captains should be creative and organized and have good communication skills.

Floor Entertainment/ Crowd Entertainment (2)

This newly designed position will be responsible for recruiting and organizing events on the floor during THON weekend as well as thinking of new and innovating ways to involve the thousands of crowd members that attend THON. This position will be responsible for making sure the entire committee gets the best interaction with the dancers and audience as possible. Creativity, big ideas, and practicality are a must.

Intra-committee Liaison (1)

This captain is responsible for maintaining the bond and energy in the Entertainment Committee. They will plan and coordinate all retreats, design and order all gear, and develop bonding activities throughout the year. They also will be responsible for making sure everyone in THON is appreciated and has the best experience possible. Creativity and event planning skills are a must.

Local Entertainment (2)

These 2 captains will work closely together to recruit and organize local entertainment acts involved in THON weekend, and all events leading up to THON weekend. They will be responsible for finding eclectic group of performance acts that provide high energy and excitement. Communication and organization skills are a must. Knowledge of local entertainment is preferred.

Logistics/Timeline (1)

This position has the prestigious task of creating and maintaining the timeline for THON weekend. They will help coordinate and manage along with the overall the timeline not just for the entertainment committee but for every act, performance, and event that will take place THON weekend from every other committee and group involved with THON. In addition to being extremely well organized, this person must have a working knowledge of excel and be familiar with all THON weekend events.

Pre-THON (2)

These co-captains are in charge of the first event to take place THON weekend that will set the tone for the entire rest of the 46 hours. These captains will be responsible for creating the Pre-THON video as well as organizing acts to perform in the show. These captains must be creative, innovative, and organized.

Production (3)

These 3 captains will be responsible for consulting and producing all videos created and shown both at THON and throughout the year. This list includes but is not limited to the THON Promotional video, Line Dance Video, and the Where are They Now video. Creativity and dedication is a must. Captains in this position should be very experienced in Final Cut and have a working knowledge of production.

Special Projects/ Spirit Points Coordinators (2)

These captains will be responsible for coordinating a variety of event/projects throughout the THON season including the THON auction, THON skate, THON trivia, THON night outs and more. They will be in charge of set up, publicity, organization and coordination of these exciting pre-THON events. They also will have the unique and exciting experience of organizing THON’s spirit points. Organization and creativity are a must.

RYB Liaison (1)

This new position will be our main contact with the committees we work closest with THON weekend: Rules and Regulations, Morale and OPP. They will be responsible for coordinating our efforts with them along with setting up meetings and making sure THON weekend runs as smoothly as possible which includes but is not limited to stage builds, lighting cues, and passes for every act THON weekend. Very strong communication skills and experience on R&R, OPP, or Morale are preferred.

SAAB Liaison/ Pep Rally Coordinator (2)

These 2 captains serve as the liaison between SAAB, THON, and the student athletes who perform at the Pep Rally and Athlete hour. They also have the task of coordinating and bringing new ideas to THON’s Pep Rally. Strong organization, creativity, and dedication are a must.

Videography (2)

These captains will have the import task of coordinating the filming and documentation of all THON events throughout the year. They will be responsible for making sure this year’s THON events are not lost. They also will be responsible for coordinating all camera shifts and webcasting THON weekend. Captains in this position should have a working knowledge of Final Cut and using a video camera.
