Communications

The Communications Committee serves as the main liaison to all THON volunteers within the Penn State community. They work to build strong relationships with the faculty, staff and alumni of our university. The hundreds of student organizations that support THON rely on Communications to give them the right information and tools they need to accomplish their goals for the year.

Administrative Assistant (1)

This person will assist the Overall and the rest of the captains by keeping everyone informed and organized. They will be in charge of taking minutes at meetings, sending weekly reminders to the committee, and will order all the COMM Gear for the year. This position will as serve as the Inspiration Chair for the committee.

Alumni Relations (1) *

This position works with the Dance Marathon Alumni Interest Group (DMAIG) and the Penn State Alumni Association to build a strong base of support for years to come. They will help with fundraising and will plan an event to be held THON weekend. New for THON 2009, Alumni Relations will also have a committee that works to spread awareness of THON to alumni.

Campus Outreach (2) *

These captains, along with their committee, will be in charge of spreading the mission of THON throughout campus. They will work to keep faculty, staff, and students informed about ways they can help. This will be done by sending letters, staffing information stations, and through face-to-face meetings with individuals who would like to learn more about THON. One captain will focus on student based initiatives and the other on faculty and staff initiatives.

CCSG Liaison (2) *

These captains are the main liaison between THON and the Commonwealth Campuses. They will build and maintain strong communication ties with all campuses of Penn State throughout the year to ensure all students have the chance to get involved. With the help of their committee, they plan events to keep all Penn State students connected to THON.

Workshop Coordinator (1)

This captain will be in charge of planning various events throughout the year in order to prepare THON volunteers. Activities to help coordinate include: East Halls Dinner (for all freshman that want to learn more about committees), New to THON (for students who want to learn more about how THON does what THON does), THON Chair Workshop, Comm-A-Palooza (the THON Weekend training for all Communications Committees), and other fundraising activities.

Greek Organizations Liaison (3)

These captains will work closely with the Organization Liaison team to assist all the student organizations of THON in meeting their goals for the upcoming year. Their main focus will be the Greek organizations, but they will also work on fundraising seminars for all THON Chairs. Fundraising and THON Chair experience is a huge plus for this position. Having the ability to work well with people and being an effective communicator are essential to this position.

Independent Organizations Liaison (4-5)

These captains will work closely with the Organization Liaison team to assist all the student organizations of THON in meeting their goals for the upcoming year. Their main focus will be the Independent organizations, but they will also work on fundraising seminars for all THON Chairs. Fundraising and THON Chair experience is a huge plus for this position. Having the ability to work well with people and being an effective communicator are essential to this position.

Independent Dancers Liaison (1)

This captain will work closely with the Organization Liaison team to assist all the student organizations of THON in meeting their goals for the upcoming year. Their main focus will be the independent dancers of THON, but they will also work on fundraising seminars for all THON chairs. Fundraising and THON Chair experience is a huge plus for this position. Having the ability to work well with people and being an effective communicator are essential to this position.

New Organizations Liaison (2)

These captains will work closely with the Organization Liaison team to assist all the student organizations of THON in meeting their goals for the upcoming year. Their main focus will be guiding organizations in their first year of fundraising for THON. Fundraising and THON Chair experience is a huge plus for this position. Having the ability to work well with people and being an effective communicator are essential to this position.

Organization Liaisons Coordinator (1)

This captain will be the point person for all the Organization Liaison liaisons. They will coordinate the contacting of the organizations, help answer questions, and help plan the THON Chair Workshop in the fall. The ability to accomplish many goals at once is a must for this position.

Mini-THON & DM Liaison (1) *

This captain will work with Mini-THONs around the state to assist them with any information they may require while planning their event. They will also serve as the main point person to other Universities from around the country to learn more about what makes THON so successful.

Student Activity Advisory Board (SAAB) (1)

This captain works with the student-athletes to help them fundraise and become involved in different THON activities. They act as THON chairs to athletes by helping them find alternative ways to raise money and participate in THON.

THON Weekend Liaison (1)

This position is almost entirely focused on preparing for THON Weekend. They will plan all the Communication committee's activities, such as Info Booths in the Bryce Jordan Center, committee and children identification buttons, sleep shifts for all Captains, and other essential items for THON.

Special Projects Coordinator (1)*

This captain will be in charge of keeping all captains and committee members informed through various means as well as helping with special projects throughout the year such as committee and children identification buttons and the THON Blood Drive. This position will also assist with projects such as Committee Fundraising Challenge.

University Relations (1)*

This captain will help foster relationships between THON and the Penn State community. They will get to know the students and the various organizations who are involved with THON. They will aide the Campus Outreach captains in reaching out to the student body.

Office Manager (1)

This captain will help maintain a clean, friendly environment within the THON office in the HUB. Their main duties will include: providing inspirational quotes to captains, keeping office supplies stocked, and informing Communications captains of any new tasks for their weekly office hours. They will work with the Administrative Assistant to update the Communications binder with any new THON information as well as plan office holidays such as "THON Chair Appreciation Day." They will also be responsible for a weekly cleaning of the THON office. This position will also act as the Social Chair for the captains.
