How Our Families Can Help

Interested in giving back? THON provides opportunities for Four Diamonds families to share inspiration, create awareness, and also offer emotional support to other families. Please read about the different opportunities below!  

Familes Helping Families

Each year, new Four Diamonds families join the THON community. All of the new information they receive about THON and THON events throughout the year can be very overwhelming. The Family Relations Committee is there to help, but many times what this new family really needs is a veteran THON family who can help them sort through the information. They need someone who has experienced THON first hand as a family. That’s where you come in! We’re looking for families willing to lend a hand to new THON families. THONveloping

THONveloping has really taken off in the past few years, and now provides a large portion of the yearly THON donations. Many of you may already gather donations from friends and family members, which is awesome and a huge help to THON and each Four Diamonds family! Again this year, we’re offering you the opportunity to send out Penn State’s official THONvelopes!
 
By using these, you are increasing the chances that those you care about will donate to THON. This is a great opportunity to help raise the total, and come one step closer to a cure for cancer! If interested, THONveloping materials will be available at the Family Carnival, which will include mailing and return envelopes, a customized letter, and a guide to creating THONvelopes. We hope that this will be an enjoyable activity for your entire family!

Shout-Outs at Pre-THON Events

If you’ve attended THON, you know that at certain points throughout the weekend, dancers may struggle because their bodies are very fatigued from standing and lack of sleep. We’re always looking for ways to keep the dancers energized and inspired throughout the weekend and the Shout-Out video does just that! During the Family Carnival, THON 5K, and Harvest Day, your family members can record your special “shout-out” to the THON 2013 dancers!

Speaking at Events

If you’ve attended THON, you know that dancers can struggle at certain points in the weekend when their bodies are fatigued. We’re always looking for ways to keep the dancers energized and inspired throughout the weekend, and we think that we might have found just the thing to keep them on their feet! During the Family Carnival, THON 5K, and Harvest Day, your family members can record your special “shout-out” to the THON 2013 dancers! Start brainstorming as to what you want to say now, so you can get the perfect message out to the dancers!
