The sole benefactor of THON's fundraising efforts is Four Diamonds, which is dedicated to providing support to families whose children are battling pediatric cancer. THON's mission echoes and builds upon that of Four Diamond. All of THON's efforts are to directly support Four Diamonds or the families it supports.
THON runs and is involved with several programs that are designed to provide emotional and financial support to the kids and families supported by Four Diamonds. These programs differ by purpose, but they all work to achieve our mission of conquering pediatric cancer in one way or another. Below is a summary of some of the programs that we run.
Hair Donation Benefitting Wigs For Kids
THON participates in the Wigs For Kids program, which makes wigs for children who have lost their hair. This organization is unique in that the wigs that are provided are given to children at no cost. Some hair donors get their hair cut on-stage during THON Weekend!
For the past 6 years, THON has partnered with Wigs For Kids. While several other organizations create hairpieces, Wigs For Kids provides children and families with wigs at no cost to the families. Wigs For Kids was founded by Jeffrey Paul in 1981 and provides custom made hair replacements. Each piece is handmade and made completely from human hair. The hair pieces Wigs For Kids provides children allow them to feel better about themselves and look the way they did before. By doing so, they are helping kids to feel like kids again.

THON Recycling and Environmental Effort (TREE)
The THON Recycling and Environmental Effort (TREE) helps raise money benefitting the Four Diamonds while working with Penn State OPP to help save our planet one aluminum can and plastic bottle at a time.
THON Organizations, Commonwealth Campuses, Committees, and Independent Dancer Couples are encouraged to become involved with TREE by collecting uncrushed aluminum cans and bottles from the month of December ‘til THON Weekend. Bags should be dropped off at designated drop-off locations around campus. But please, do not drop off any aluminum cans or bottles until October 28th, 2016!
The organizations that collect the most bags of recycling will have the opportunity to receive THON Weekend incentives that will be assigned at a later date. Some of which include a line dance on stage or participation in a OPP’s glory event known as Slides of Strength! For directions on how to participate in TREE, please see this document.
To become a part of THON TREE and help THON go green, you should register on THINK starting Monday, September 12th. TREE collection will begin on October 28th, 2016 and end on Friday, February 3rd, 2016. You can pick up TREE recycling bags for your organization at 210 HUB during office hours starting on October 28th. If you have any questions, please contact Michael Simons at TREE@thon.org! Also, follow @4DRE_FTK for updates via Twitter!
